For this post we will talk about:
Toxicology was first encountered in the ancient times. It was commonly used as weapons, anti-venoms and medicines. People back then used poisonous plant extracts for hunting and warfare. Throughout history, opium, arrow poisons and certain metals have all been used as used to poison enemies.
Through many years of investigating and studying, there were many discoveries and many came to a conclusion that Toxicology is related to and study of Poisons.
According to www.wisegeek.com, Toxicology is a study or the Science of Poisons. It is the study of the opposing effects physical agents or chemicals on living organisms. It is the study of symptoms, mechanisms, treatments and detection of poisoning, especially the poisoning of people.
Mathieu Orfila is considered as the Modern Father of Toxicology, having given its subject its formal treatment in 1813.

According to www.toxicologysource.com, Toxicology has different sub-fields or branches. It has:
- Risk assessment which attempts to determine, probabilistically, outside the laboratory, the likelihood of an adverse effect based on a particular exposure scenario.
- Regulatory toxicology relies on risk assessment and experimental data to determine the risk and benefits, or the costs and benefits of exposure to certain chemicals, to determine whether such chemical will be allowed in the public sphere and to what extent its use and exposure will be regulated.
- Clinical toxicology involves the application of toxicological principles within a diagnostic setting, usually to determine whether a presenting adverse effect or disease or injury is due to some type of chemical exposure.
- Forensic toxicology focuses on medical-legal aspects of chemical exposure and toxic injury.
Toxicology is a important field of Science. It gives us information about the harmful effects of a substance or a drug. It makes us aware if the drug is poisonous or if a drug or a substance is okay to take.
And that is all for now. :)
